Sounds like an interesting station, AfM son?

You're somewhat proving his point there, Surfy.

I heard on the radio this morning about the Atheist stronghold in the South making incursions into Agnostic territory. Apparently, they are going to have a chat over a beer or two.

Absolutely, piston. I couldn't agree more. Well said.

Stomper, great stuff. Hume is more often a good source than others, I found.

Good luck with persuading some ISIL nutter that you are an atheist and therefore neutral.

Weber I had to at college. So I was troubled by his negativity and visions of inevitable corporate bureaucracy, and this lead me to Schumpeter, though only potted versions like this

Philosophy is just a language that helps you use your mind creatively. Having said that, I don't get British analytical philosophy, though maybe I'm in good company here.

Re: Curious- How do cowards walk this earth?
Philosophy is the study of the general and fundamental nature of reality, existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language.

The statement above is from wiki but it's good enough for my purpose. When you think about it, whether we are aware of it or not, don't we all follow a philosophy? Don't we all strive to live a lifestyle that's built on our life's experience?
AfM, as you studied philosophy were you not just reading about another's life experiences? You can agree with some and disagree with others but all the time you are gathering knowledge with which you can use to live your life. You can choose as you go along.
That is the difference between philosophy and religion. Religion does not give you an opportunity to choose other than to take it all or leave it all IF you want to be a member of any particular church. If, like philosophy, you choose to follow SOME of a religions edicts then you are vilified by the church leaders. An example would be when a priest in the Catholic decides to marry.
Philosophy makes you use your mind, religion does not.

I have always regarded the 'free will' point to be a debating tactic whereby you focus on a small peripheral point as means of distraction from the flakiness of argument on main topic.

I like the process mate. I'm not sure the answer is often that important
"A mans a man for all that" Hume. Live your live and enjoy it whatever it means if it means anything.

I love pdc.

My big brother snuffed it when he was 9.

He was in pain.

You and your imaginary friend in the sky are shitcunts who deserve each other.

By the way you might go to hell because if you have issues with the fact that you might be cloud sharing with Cliff Richards for ETERNITY.

I'm with you on that stomper but the incorrect conclusions that litter philosophy leave me ultimately frustrated.

Thinking is fun but reading about other people's wrong thinking gets dull after a while.

Don't get me wrong. I was interested in it for 10 or more years. There's a lot in it.

"This thread is still going makes me feel good that I have succeeded in offending people like I hoped."

You have succeeded in showing yourself up for a cretin, as you always do.

The only person you've annoyed is a dying man, so, by admitting this makes you feel good, you've also shown yourself to be a scumbag.

I read two books recently by Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins on religion. It reaffirms my belief that religion is really just a load of bollocks and if God is real then he is a massive cunt!

I have similar considerations on Schumpeter and capitalism's creative destruction in the light of Max Weber.

I dont see how anyone can read Plato's Apology or Descartes Meditations without being moved. Even though I disagree with many of his conclusions the depth of Descartes' uncertainty and the development of his method is mind blowing

Ilpdc.. Your living proof what a bunch of mad cunts followers of any religion are!! I got much better things to do with my life than waste time doing church and that shit, fighting other religions because you think your faith is best.. The list is endless.. The important thing that you religious nuts all deny is that religion came about from fear! Politics of old to keep the masses quiet and most of all, fear of death and promises of heaven, virgins and all sorts of crap.. However, I would like to see a full blown out modern Christian v Muslim war at the moment, just for the fun of it because I'm sick to death of the lot of you!! I'm sure us boring atheist would manage without the fucking lot of you!!
